| A pair of red engineering division-rank strips featured on Starfleet uniforms in Star Trek I: The Motion Picture. The item is red fabric on a black felt board with a gold thread line on one end indicating the wearer to be an undisclosed rank. This style of accent would have appeared on Starfleet Class-B, C, and D uniforms. Only during this feature film were division strips with rank used, in subsequent films they retained their use indicating division but rank was attached elsewhere on the uniform. An online webpage called ‘Spike's Star Trek Page’ speculates that this rank would be ‘crewman second class’ which seems realistic, however no information is available in cannon that explains this rank or any immediate higher or lower rank. | |||
