| STAR TREK IV: “ANDORIAN WIG AND ANTENNAE” | |||
| A special effects item appearing in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home for wear by an Andorian commodore. The item is a shaped white wig with a formed skull cap that houses electrical components necessary to make a pair of antennae move. The antennae are made from blue and white painted foam rubber with a bent wire frame inside that moves the antennae when the item is powered and the twin receivers on the front of the head piece hidden under the hair receive sound. That’s right, the antennae actually move due to the rotating wire within them when it picks up sound. The electronic motors in the head piece are powered by 2 C size 1.5volt batteries, one of the motors is no longer glued to the inner skull cap. The wig is holed in two places for the antennae to stick through. A switch on the back of the skullcap activates the electrical elements of the item. It is believed that this item was also featured in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “The Offspring” and perhaps in “Captain’s Holiday”. | |||
