SALE: Hollywood Auction 24 ESTIMATE: $600 - $800
PRICE: $4750
Archive of original concept presentation artwork used to create the Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan one-sheet poster
(Paramount, 1982) Original artwork by Tom Jung. Includes one 28 in. x 34 in. Photostat (some chipping to folds), one reduced facsimile, one original pencil sketch (with title “Vengeance of Khan”), one ink sketch, two color drawings, and one original concept mounted to board. In working on this film, Jung recalls his alarm when realizing that this film and the new Star Wars sequel had very similar titles: “When I was told the title was to be ‘Revenge of Khan’, it occurred to me that Lucas’ film was also titled something very similar: ‘Revenge of the Jedi’. I phoned Lucy Wilson of George Lucas’ team with this news. As it turned out, both titles were changed; however, when I got the assignment, it was somehow called the Vengeance of Khan.” The final title was, of course, The Wrath of Khan. The archive contains seven pieces in total, of various sizes – the largest being approx. 34 in. x 28 ½ in.
