STAR TREK III: “DR. DAVID MARCUS –COSTUME AND AWAY TEAM JACKET” | |||
The last known available costume made for wear by Merritt Butrick in his portrayal of “Dr. David Marcus”, this one specifically used in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. The costume is made from all high quality synthetic material and leather components. The costume is a set of light olive colored trousers with stylized Velcro cuffs at the ankles, front pockets, sewn in belt loops, a clasp and zipper fly, interior buttons for suspenders, and a sewn in Western Costume Co. tag reading ‘Merritt Butrick’. The trousers depict one slight snag on the front right leg above the knee, a variety of minor discolorations due to production use, and are in otherwise excellent condition. The corresponding belt is tan leather with metal accents and a metal buckle, in excellent condition. The costume top is aqua colored spandex with white fabric interior lining, a zip front that features snaps to hide the zipper, stylized sleeve cuffs with Velcro seals, multiple thread lines for a futuristic appearance on the sleeves, shoulder fronts and backs, and an oval and triangle shaped inset on the left front. The oval shaped inset features a molded metal ‘researcher badge’ that is pin backed and was located on the costume, the backings are visible inside the costume, and the item is painted rust red with a bronze tone. The costume top features a sewn in Western Costume Co. tag inscribed ‘(Double)’ which may indicate it was a stand-in, stunt, or additional piece. Excepting a smudge at the waist line, the top is in perfect condition. The costume coat is brown colored vinyl with a green nylon interior lining, with similar stylized sleeve cuffs, a heavy duty zippered front with a ball zip pull specific to Star Trek feature films, snap shoulder epaulettes, snap collar bracings, a metal gear loop attached to the center of the back, and an astonishing eight functional pockets. The pockets consist of two open topped breast pockets, one with a ‘researcher’s badge’ made from multiple elements including a green plastic accent and a translucent green window that depicts internal technology. Four zip topped pockets feature the same ball zipper pull, and two deep and wide open topped pockets are at the waist. The sewn in Western Costume Co. tag in the coat reads ‘Merritt Butrick’. Finally, the costume is accompanied by a pair of brown leather shoes with inside zips labeled internally ‘M. Butrick’. The shoes feature dried mud on the soles from production use on the Genesis Planet set, and some of the coat pockets also feature stone debris from the set as well. A costumer’s tag reading ‘Merritt Buttrick as David Marcus’ accompanies the lot, perhaps one of the finest and best preserved of all Star Trek feature films costume in this collection. |
