STAR TREK: TNG “BARASH – FUTURE IMPERFECT”
“Commander Riker” (Jonathan Frakes) leads an away team mission to a planet and contracts a virus which renders him unconscious. When he wakes sixteen years later he is the captain of the “Enterprise-D”, “Picard” (Patrick Stewart) has gone on to become ambassador to the Romulans, and Riker has a son named after him! Over the course of the next day Riker attempts to come to terms with an apparent memory loss due to the virus he contracted on that planet but systems all over the ship are not operating properly in the midst of peace negotiations with the Romulans and Riker becomes suspicious. While trying to confront these problems, he has to deal with a son he doesn't remember and a wife who is long dead. His doubts turn to suspicions and soon Riker has solved the puzzle. His son is actually a lonely alien whose mother left him in hiding within a holographic device capable of serving his every need. When it is revealed that Riker’s ‘son’, “Jean-Luc Riker” (Chris Demetral) is actually an alien, it was this costume, full head mask, and sculpted stilts which appeared before him. The mask is molded latex with molded resin eyes, all painted to be very lifelike and preserved in fantastic condition. Three sets of telephone wires hang from the mask for connection to a special effects board which perform an untested result. The stilts are metal posts on metal pedestals encased with molded latex to appear as three toed alien feet to which the wearer straps their feet with Velcro on wooden soles, the right one is cracked. The jumpsuit is pale green and gold knitted with pleats and ruffles on all limbs. The rigid cuffs and feet covers are oval and a continuation of the main body’s fabric. The collar is also stiff and there is a zip up the back. The costumer’s tag indicates wear by ‘Dana Tjulander’ as does a final draft of the script for the episode dated ‘September 13, 1990’, despite the fact that “The Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion” by Larry Nemecek (copyright 1995) indicates ‘Dana Tjowander’ as does “Memory Alpha”, a secondary site to “Wikipedia”. |

STAR TREK: VOYAGER “USS DAUNTLESS BRIDGE MODEL – HOPE AND FEAR”
Having accessed a communications array, the crew of “Voyager” received an encoded message indicating nearby coordinates. Upon arrival they discovered a starship presumably sent from Starfleet to carry them home employing experimental ‘quantum slipstream drive' technology much faster than warp speed. The ship was a dream come true and the bridge was light years more advanced than that of the intrepid “USS Voyager”. The item up for auction is a foam core model of the bridge of the “Dauntless”, the ship discovered in the episode “Hope and Fear”. The model features two secondary areas adjoining the main bridge rotunda, a three dimensional work of art eventually realized in a full scale, life sized set featured in the episode. The central bridge depicts an inset helm bank and chair at the fore, a centrally located command chair and a series of guard rails around them. The sides of the bridge walls are open to give viewers a full view of the interior, a section of the walls are present for the full effect. The front of the bridge is a step up to the main viewscreen (open for a view aft), and the rear reveals the exit to attached corridors. Two model miniature Starfleet characters are present for scale depicted in ‘First Contact-style’ uniforms, glued into place, one of the guard rails is unattached butt most likely to be placed at the fore of the bridge. The entire model is attached to a base showing some degree of damage due to time and storage conditions in that a corner is cracked but still attached due to the sturdiness of the top layer of the base, and a small corner under the identification plate on the base is broken away. The ID plate reads ‘Star Trek: Voyager, Episode #194, “Hope and Fear”, Dauntless Bridge” in caps and in the ‘Voyager-style’ font. The entire item measures approx. 22 X 36 X 7.5 inches. |
