STAR TREK: TNG “BOTANICAL RESEARCH TERMINAL” FROM “CLUES”
An extraordinary prop item featured in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Clues” and later in “True Q”. The item is a computer-like terminal or a research station used in “Clues” to grow Diomedian scarlet moss in “Dr. Crusher's” (Gates McFadden) lab. The item was one of the keys to the episode in which certain unforeseen elements would bring about the discovery of a planet that the crew of the “Enterprise-D” was supposed to forget. The item is made from multiple fashioned resin components with metal accents with rubber detailing. It also features internal electronic lighting for backlighting the four LCARS style ‘display screens’ and container platforms below them as well as sequentially flashing red lights. The ‘display screens’ depict varying scales of biologic growth and are labeled ‘Nitrate Assimilation’, ‘Dioxide Supplements’, ‘Auxim Production’, and ‘Oxygen Dissolvability’ and set over the container placements, one of the four resin curvatures used to stabilize the missing containers has lost its original adhesive quality but is still present. A set of three static scales are present on the item and there is a location for another that has been removed or lost to time. The item also features metallic silver Starfleet inventory applications indicating ‘Engineering Access Only’ and ‘Primary Systems Access’ with varying instructions made up of humorous phrases. The item is powered by standard American electricity when plugged into a socket using a Type-A two pronged plug and switch activated on the reverse. The item measures approx. 13.75 X 19 X 12.75 inches. While the item has been shown to function perfectly in most cases, all of the lights do not activate every time the item is powered. Nevertheless the item retains its functionality in most cases.
