STAR TREK: ENT “PRECURSOR TO THE PRIME DIRECTIVE SCRIPT AND ART LOT” FROM “CIVILIZATION” AND “DEAR DOCTOR” | |||
A lot of first season scripts and artwork whose episodes illustrate a need for what would become Starfleet’s “General Order One”, the Prime Directive. The first script is from the episode “Civilization”; wherein the “Enterprise NX-01” comes upon an Earth-like civilization in a much more primitive stage of development. In this episode, “T’Pol” suggests that Starfleet adopt Vulcan protocols that become the benchmark for the Prime Directive and “Captain Archer” (Scott Bakula), in true Enterprise captain style, becomes involved with a member of the alien species and reveals his true identity to her. Included are two original pieces of artwork of the attack craft belonging to the alien miners; both are full color images, signed and dated by John Eaves, feature the series name, episode name and number and are labeled “Alien Attack Vessel, Version #2”. The script itself bears the series and episode name, episode number, the writers, director, date and states that it is the final draft. A second page lists the sets used; the third lists the cast for the episode, and the next two pages feature a pronunciation guide for alien names and phrases used. The second script is from the landmark, in terms of the development of the Prime Directive, episode “Dear Doctor”; wherein “Dr. Phlox” (John Billingsley) is narrating a letter to a colleague and describing a situation with a race called the Valakians who are asking for warp technology to try and save their race from extinction by a genetic flaw that they assume is merely a plague. This episode has “Dr. Phlox” and “Captain Archer” at odds about essentially allowing a sentient race to become extinct because they have come to an “evolutionary dead end” and also includes the actual first mention of the term “Prime Directive”. The script itself has a cover sheet with the Enterprise logo, the name of the episode, the date and states it is the final draft. A second page lists the sets used; the third lists the cast for the episode, and the next two pages feature a pronunciation guide for alien names and phrases used. |
